In Norvegia i rilievi hanno altitudini meno elevate delle Alpi dell’Europa meridionale, ma si trovano più di 300 cime montuose che superano i 2.000 metri d’altezza.

Galdhøpiggen è la montagna più alta della Norvegia con i suoi 2.469 metri (un numero importante, che tutti i norvegesi conoscono).

“Lassù sulle montagne”

La Norvegia è costituita principalmente da montagne e aree naturali selvagge. Vette impervie e alture tondeggianti formano una parte importante dell'identità nazionale. I norvegesi hanno da sempre utilizzato le montagne per lo svago e il tempo libero. In tutto il paese tantissime persone vanno in montagna nei weekend e nei periodi di vacanza per respirare aria fresca e pulita.

Quasi metà della popolazione possiede una hytte, cioè uno chalet privato, piccolo o grande che sia. Ci sono anche migliaia di rifugi di montagna con personale, o Fjellstuer, chalet autogestiti e semplici rifugi senza personale. Molti di questi sono gestiti dall’Associazione Trekking Norvegese (DNT). Alcuni dei rifugi e degli chalet più nuovi sono stati progettati da importanti architetti con architetture particolari e all’avanguardia. In molti di questi rifugi si servono cibi tipici preparati con materie prime del territorio come alce, cervo, trota o renna.

L’escursionismo è l’attività outdoor preferita da tanti norvegesi. Puoi scegliere tra migliaia di chilometri di sentieri segnalati di ogni livello di difficoltà. Anche se in Norvegia il diritto di accesso assicura a tutti di poter godere liberamente della natura, ricorda di rimanere sui sentieri per ridurre al minimo l’impatto sull’ambiente e per rispettare la privacy degli altri.

Se vuoi unire una vacanza in città con delle escursioni in montagna in molti centri urbani della Norvegia potrai fare entrambe le cose. Bergen, Ålesund, Bodø e Tromsø sono alcune tra le tante città grandi e piccole che offrono un facile e comodo accesso alle montagne nei dintorni.

Durante l’inverno la Norvegia offre centri per lo sci alpino per ogni livello di preparazione. Nel sud della Norvegia troverai la maggior parte delle migliori località sciistiche del paese, facilmente accessibili e spesso poco distanti da aeroporti, porti e stazioni ferroviarie. Se sei in cerca di adrenalina le montagne nella Norvegia dei fiordi e nella Norvegia settentrionale sono mete perfette per lo sci escursionismo.

Tempo permettendo puoi trovare anche delle piste per lo sci di fondo vicino a dove ti trovi, sia nei pressi delle città sia in piena campagna.

Vorresti fare delle passeggiate in inverno? Nessun problema! Le escursioni con le ciaspole sono un’attività molto popolare e un ottimo esercizio fisico.

Preikestolen (il Pulpito), è un’altra famosissima formazione rocciosa, probabilmente la più conosciuta della Norvegia, che puoi raggiungere a piedi tutto l’anno.

Andare con una guida è fortemente raccomandato durante la fredda stagione invernale.

Se non hai voglia di fare un’escursione impegnativa, molte montagne sono comodamente accessibili in funivia o funicolare, come questa a Loen nella Norvegia dei fiordi.

È importante restare sui sentieri segnalati. L’Associazione Trekking Norvegese (DNT) ha segnato i sentieri più sicuri per gran parte degli itinerari in montagna con il simbolo di una 'T' rossa, facile da riconoscere. Ricorda di non perderlo di vista quando stai facendo una passeggiata.

Stagioni in montagna

L’esperienza che avrai delle montagne norvegesi sarà profondamente diversa a seconda del periodo dell'anno in cui verrai.

L’estate è il periodo migliore per escursioni e trekking sui vasti altopiani e sulle vette più spettacolari. I sentieri più popolari possono a volte essere un po’ affollati durante l’alta stagione estiva.

In autunno la natura è intenta a prepararsi per l’inverno e il paesaggio si illumina di tinte rosse e dorate. L’aria è limpida e frizzante e i colori brillanti. È la stagione della raccolta di camemori e mirtilli e della caccia a pernici e renne. Puoi ancora fare escursioni a piedi ma devi essere preparato alle prime improvvise nevicate.

D’inverno quasi tutta la Norvegia si trasforma in un paradiso innevato. Ricorda che in alcune zone può fare buio e freddo, ma è anche la stagione più lunga in montagna e quella in cui puoi dedicarti a un’infinità di entusiasmanti attività con e senza gli sci.

Con l’arrivo della primavera la natura si risveglia, attirando di nuovo i viaggiatori a esplorare monti e valli a piedi o a cavallo e ad andare a pesca nei numerosissimi laghi di montagna.

Cinque curiosità sulle montagne norvegesi

  1. La montagna più alta della Norvegia è Galdhøpiggen nel Parco Nazionale di Jotunheimen, con un'altezza di 2.469 metri sul livello del mare. La sua vetta è stata raggiunta per la prima volta nel 1850 da un gruppo di tre uomini provenienti dalla vicina Lom: un insegnante, un corista e un contadino.
  2. La seconda vetta più alta è Glittertind, anch'essa nel Parco Nazionale di Jotunheimen, con 2.464 metri sul livello del mare inclusa la cima innevata.
  3. In Norvegia qualsiasi altura che supera il limite del bosco è spesso considerata montagna. Quindi il limite può variare dal livello del mare nell'estremo nord del paese fino a circa 1.200 metri s.l.m. nella Norvegia meridionale.
  4. In Norvegia ci sono tra 230 e 300 cime montuose sopra i 2.000 metri, in base a quale definizione si utilizza.
  5. Ci sono 1.000 montagne in Norvegia che superano i 1.650 metri sul livello del mare, considerato un rilievo topografico di 50 o più metri.
