Secondo la Lonely Planet, la Norvegia è l'ultimo rifugio per alcune delle più affascinanti specie di fauna selvatica d’Europa. Prima dell'avvento di internet qualche turista pensava magari di vedere gli orsi polari in giro per le strade del paese, ma si possono avvistare solo alle Svalbard.

Nelle terre selvagge

Nella Norvegia continentale puoi invece imbatterti in alci, renne e una eccezionale avifauna quando ti avventuri per conto tuo nella natura selvaggia. Se avrai questa fortuna, ricordati però che sono animali selvatici. Lasciali in pace mentre arretri, lentamente. Non spaventarli e non avvicinarti, perché alcuni animali potrebbero inseguirti se si sentono minacciati.

Se vuoi vedere questi animali nel loro habitat naturale il modo migliore è partecipare a un safari naturalistico. Le guide sanno dove è più probabile avvistare la fauna selvatica e, soprattutto, come farlo in tutta sicurezza.

Quest’ultimo punto è molto importante, dato che alcuni safari ti porteranno vicino ad animali che non dovresti cercare di avvicinare per conto tuo, come il bue muschiato.

Le guide semplicemente renderanno più facile goderti l’incontro con gli animali, dato che non dovrai preoccuparti di nient’altro se non di raccogliere le prove della tua avventura (leggi: una bella foto per i social media).

Bene, ora che abbiamo visto gli aspetti di base andiamo in esplorazione dei migliori safari naturalistici in Norvegia!

Incontro ravvicinato con le balene

Cetacei. Questi giganti dell’oceano arrivano ogni anno lungo le coste norvegesi e si mettono in mostra per i turisti e la gente del posto. In Norvegia si avvistano lungo la costa delle Vesterålen durante tutto l’anno. Puoi partecipare ai tour guidati sia da Stø sia da Andenes. In quest’ultimo villaggio aprirà nel 2023 uno spettacolare museo: The Whale.

Il cetaceo più comune da avvistare in estate è il capodoglio, ma con un po' di fortuna si possono vedere anche globicefali, balenottere minori, megattere, delfini e orche. In inverno potrebbero fare la loro comparsa anche le balenottere comuni!

Ci sono anche altri whale safari guidati nella Norvegia settentrionale in inverno, ad esempio con tour operator di Tromsø, visto che questi posti distano soltanto un breve viaggio in barca dalle acque preferite dalle balene.

Alle isole Svalbard potresti essere così fortunato da avvistare il più grande cetaceo della terra, la balenottera azzurra. Durante l’estate l’Isfjorden è noto per essere un’area di alimentazione per balenottere azzurre, balenottere comuni, megattere e beluga.

Partecipando a un whale safari avrai anche modo di goderti magnifici panorami, l'aria fresca dell’oceano e un ambiente naturale che ti lascerà sicuramente ricordi indelebili.

Bue muschiato: un gigante peloso del passato

monti Dovrefjell sono l’unico posto in Norvegia, e uno dei pochi al mondo, dove si può vedere l’imponente bue muschiato. Nei safari estivi, a piedi e guidati, viene praticamente garantito ai partecipanti un incontro con questi villose bestie, pesanti quasi mezza tonnellata. Alcuni operatori offrono tour guidati e safari fotografici anche in inverno.

I buoi muschiati non sono aggressivi a condizione che non ci si avvicini troppo. Per la sicurezza personale dei visitatori e per il benessere degli animali, devi sempre mantenere una distanza di almeno 200 metri.

Nonostante possa sembrare grande e goffo, dato che pesa tra i 225 e i 400 chili, il bue muschiato riesce a raggiungere la velocità di 60 chilometri all'ora.

Il diritto di accesso

Il diritto di accesso in Norvegia (“allemannsretten”) dal 1957 è diventato parte della Legge sulle attività ricreative all'aperto. Esso garantisce a tutti il pieno accesso alla natura, anche su grandi aree di proprietà privata.

Le regole principali sono semplici: avere riguardo e cura, raccogliere i propri rifiuti e mostrare rispetto per la natura e per le persone.

Un tour mostruosamente gustoso

Vieni a trovarti faccia a faccia con il granchio reale rosso del Mare di Barents, sulla costa di Kirkenes nel Finnmark, presso il confine russo. Alla fine potrai assaggiane le carni saporite.

Con un safari al granchio reale potrai osservare questo enorme crostaceo da terra o dalla barca, quando viene pescato e messo nell’acqua bollente. Il granchio reale rosso può misurare fino a due metri da chela a chela e pesare fino a 15 chilogrammi.

Il pasto che conclude il safari è una vera festa per il palato: saporiti pezzi di carne di granchio con pane, salse fatte in casa e, per chi lo desidera, vino bianco.

Un paradiso per i birdwatcher

Dall’osservatorio ornitologico di Lista nella Norvegia meridionale fino a Runde nella Norvegia dei fiordi e a Varangerfjord nella Norvegia settentrionale – ci sono davvero tanti posti ideali per il birdwatching nella splendida natura norvegese.

Scatta una foto a strolaghe, svassi e anatidi nell’ovest, o scegli un habitat montano per avvistare il Piviere tortolino, il Falaropo beccosottile, l’Allodola golagialla, lo Zigolo delle nevi, e se sei fortunato magari un Gufo delle nevi.

Anche le isole Vega, al largo della costa dello Helgeland e protette dall’UNESCO, sono un luogo ideale per i birdwatcher, con oltre 230 specie di uccelli! Uno dei più popolari è l’edredone.

Se sei maggiormente interessato alle specie artiche come l’Edredone di Steller, il Re degli edredoni e l’Uria di Brünnich, allora il posto giusto è la zona intorno al Varangerfjord, nel Finnmark. È una delle destinazioni migliori e più facilmente accessibili per l’osservazione degli uccelli artici.

Le aquile di mare coda bianca si possono trovare lungo la costa della Norvegia, con la maggior popolazione presente nella parte più settentrionale del paese. Le aquile norvegesi sono perfino state portate in Scozia per il ripopolamento di questo maestoso uccello.

E non dimentichiamo la pulcinella di mare! Ci sono numerosi posti dove avvistare questo piccolo e caratteristico uccello, ma i più popolari sono Runde nella regione di Sunnmøre, Andøya alle Vesterålen, l’isola di Lovund di fronte alla costa dello Helgeland, e Røst alle isole Lofoten.

L’alce, il re della foresta

Se speri in un incontro ravvicinato con il re della foresta, allora partecipa a un safari guidato all’alce. Potresti avvistarne uno al tramonto, illuminato dai fari della tua bici elettrica, passare la notte nella torre di avvistamento degli alci nella valle di Espedalen, o baciare un alce allo Svartisen Moose a Salten.

Ci sono in effetti tanti posti dove puoi vedere gli alci in Norvegia, sia nel loro habitat naturale sia nei parchi naturali. Abbiamo perfino un luogo chiamato Elgland, che significa “paese dell’alce”!
