Hurtigruten, il postale dei fiordi norvegesi, naviga da oltre 130 anni di porto in porto lungo una delle coste più belle del mondo!
Gran parte della Norvegia settentrionale non aveva strade o ferrovie adeguate fino a dopo la Seconda guerra mondiale.
Quindi chi viveva in un isolato villaggio di pescatori, si sentiva …
… davvero isolato.
Tutto cambiò nel 1893, quando la DS Vesteraalen, la prima nave a vapore Hurtigruten, il 2 luglio cominciò il suo viaggio da Trondheim a Hammerfest, facendo scalo in 11 porti lungo il tragitto.
Nel 1898 la rotta si estese verso sud fino a includere Bergen.
Dieci anni più tardi Kirkenes, vicino al confine russo, divenne il punto più settentrionale di inversione della navigazione del postale.
È possibile viaggiare anche da Oslo fino a Capo Nord con il nuovo North Cape Express, oppure da Bergen alle Svalbard con lo Svalbard Express.
Nel corso degli anni Hurtigruten è diventato una parte integrante della cultura norvegese ed è stato perfino immortalato nella canzone “Hurtigrute” della cantautrice Kari Bremnes.

L’80% del cibo che gusti a bordo proviene da fornitori norvegesi, che assicurano lavoro e sostentamento alle persone che vivono lungo la costa.
Gli abitanti locali pescano lo “skrei”, il merluzzo artico migratore, da migliaia di anni.
