We do not stick to one type or genre of music, but open the doors to the most adventurous and innovative music makers to bring us something new. Borealis is open for everybody; for the first time listener to the seasoned musicologist, from the very smallest to the oldest and wisest. At Borealis we are all exploring together.

Maijazz has become one of the foremost recurring cultural events in the Stavanger region. Like most artistic projects, Maijazz also had a challenging start, and its success was by no means guaranteed. The festival is the result of strong collaboration between talented artists, enthusiastic volunteers, supportive politicians, loyal sponsors and, not least, an ever-growing and knowledgeable audience. Each of these has played a crucial role in developing the festival into one of the country's leading events in its category. Maijazz is committed to playing a role in the exciting development and challenges facing the Stavanger region. Maijazz provides great experiences and brings life to the city Maijazz aims to contribute to the enjoyment of music, insight and reflection. But of course also to good entertainment, great experiences and life in the city. Maijazz has contributed to the region with artists such as Jan Garbarek, Pat Metheny Group, Herbie Hancock, E.S.T., Joe Zawinul and Youssou N'dour, to name but a few of those who have visited Stavanger and Maijazz. Maijazz is constantly evolving Maijazz wants to be a driving force in the cultural development of the region. In recent years, the established collaboration with the University of Stavanger has really taken off. The Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble is a cornerstone of the festival. The series ‘Tett på en Helt’ (Close to a Hero, part of the Blå Trå series at Stavanger Jazzforum) has become one of the most popular events among students at the Institute of Music and Dance/UiS. The collaboration with Stavanger Cathedral School/Music, Dance and Drama, Vågen Upper Secondary School in Sandnes, St. Svithun Upper Secondary School and the Culture School in Bjergsted focuses on the development of musicians, the music scene in the region and, not least, audience development.

Borealis - a festival for experimental music
    Bergen
    10.03.2026 - 14.03.2026

Borealis - a festival for experimental music

Borealis is a festival for experimental music. A place where we celebrate the music that falls between the gaps. A place for adventurous listening. Bringing together new musical experiments from Bergen, Norway and around the world, Borealis occupies the city for 5 days each March, taking over the art galleries, concert halls and warehouse spaces, with concerts, installations, talks and films. Borealis works with living composers, sound artists, improvisers and musicians, to develop projects that rearrange the furniture of the musical world, to question our assumptions about what music is and where it can go. We do not stick to one type or genre of music, but open the doors to the most adventurous and innovative music makers to bring us something new. Borealis is open for everybody; for the first time listener to the seasoned musicologist, from the very smallest to the oldest and wisest. At Borealis we are all exploring together.

Canal Street - Arendal music festival

30 Years of Music, People, and Magic We call it a pearl jubilee when we celebrate three decades of dance, laughter, dedicated volunteers, applause, and musical moments that have become part of the city and of us. From the very first note at what was then called the Arendal Jazz and Blues Festival to today’s Canal Street as we know it—with concerts at Arendal Cemetery, Strømsbo Farm, Teaterplassen, Poppes Plass, Sam Eydes Plass, the Cultural Center, and Barnestreet at Kanalplassen—Canal Street has been a meeting place for everything we love about summer in Southern Norway. C(S)U in week 30! For the music. For the city. For each other. About 40-50 different artists and bands visit the festival. Even though jazz traditionally has been well represented, most genres are presented here. In addition to offering the best Norwegian artists, the festival has included artists like Bob Geldof, Lauren Hill, Joss Stone, Waterboys, Gary Moore, Solomon Burke, Melody Gardot, Angélique Kidjo and more on the stage the last five years.

    Dalane bluesfestival

A festival with a wide range of genres Although the name promises blues, over the years the festival has deliberately sought diversity in its programme – precisely to appeal to a wider audience. Traditional blues genres are purposefully combined with rock, soul, Americana and newer expressions that tend to attract a wide range of both loyal and new festival-goers. The festival is known for its intimate feel, with stages such as: Sykkelverkstedet – an atmospheric, local concert venue used year after year Grand Scene – cosy concerts in the basement of the Grand Hotel Egersund Tools-Scene (main stage) – a robust, indoor stage with a powerful sound and lighting rig for the festival's biggest artists Rockescenen – a fresh addition since 2016, with harder and alternative elements that give young people a cultural space The stages are positioned so that the audience can easily move between them, contributing to a lively and accessible festival experience in the centre of Egersund. An inclusive and authentic expression The festival delivers a warm atmosphere where both dedicated blues lovers and curious participants will find something to enjoy. The festival management adheres to the ideals of quality, proximity and community – and the festival has become a welcome cultural beacon in the region.

    Finns are coming

Finland has traditionally received less attention as a beer nation than some of its neighbouring countries. Nevertheless, there is an established brewing tradition, and several Finnish breweries have been founded in recent years. In 2022, Olaf Brewing launched the beer “OTAN” in connection with Finland’s NATO application. The name refers both to the French acronym for NATO and to the Finnish expression “otan olutta”, which can be translated as “I’ll have a beer”. The launch was covered by Norwegian media, including Framtida.no, and later referenced by Ølportalen. Factory Brewing is a sub-label of ETKO Brewery, which was established in 2017. Under the Factory name, beer is produced in smaller series, while beers under the ETKO name make up the brewery’s main range.
