La Strada turistica nazionale di Valdresflye, una delle 18 Strade turistiche nazionali della Norvegia, attraversa l’altopiano e offre splendidi panorami sul Parco nazionale di Jotunheimen.

Questo incredibile itinerario ti conduce per 49 chilometri attraverso Valdresflye, tra Garli (vicino a Beitostølen nel Valdres) e Besstrondsæter a Vågå.
Il punto più elevato della strada, 1.389 metri sul livello del mare, offre una vista fantastica sulle montagne e ci sono diversi punti panoramici dove fermarsi lungo il tragitto.
La strada passa anche accanto a Gjende, punto di partenza per l’escursione a Besseggen.
Tieni presente che l’intera strada è aperta di solito da inizio aprile a metà novembre, in base alle condizioni dell’innevamento e del tempo. Il tratto tra Vågå e Gjendesheim, la parte più settentrionale dell’itinerario, è aperto tutto l’anno.
Nota: l’uso di bici elettriche, a prescindere che il motore venga o meno utilizzato, è proibito nella natura e su tutti i sentieri e le strade di campagna che attraversano ambienti naturali. Questo divieto è stato introdotto per proteggere flora e fauna, gli animali selvatici vulnerabili e gli altri utenti dei sentieri. È però permesso percorrere strade e sentieri ciclabili, come la popolare Mjølkevegen. Prima di partire controlla presso gli uffici turistici locali per maggiori informazioni.
In auto: se parti da Oslo o da Bergen puoi seguire la strada E16 per Beitostølen e Garli. Da Trondheim percorri la strada E6. Puoi pianificare il tuo itinerario, trovare gli aggiornamenti sul traffico e altro su Statens Vegvesen.
Con i trasporti pubblici: il pullman Valdresekspressen opera tutti i giorni, tutto l’anno, e collega Oslo, Fagernes e Beitostølen. Durante l’estate la tratta viene estesa, con partenze supplementari per Gjendesheim (la stagione va dal 7 giugno al 6 ottobre).

Beito High Ropes Course is located in scenic surroundings in the Beito forest, a few kilometres from Beitostølen. There are three different trails marked green, red and black. The black trail is the most challenging of the three trails. The park is located on private property and need to be prebooked. The park is open during spring, summer and autumn. User must be at least 10 years of age and have a minimum height of 130 cm. The maximum weight is 100 kg. We also have a climbing park for the youngest children from 4 years old and 105cm, max 30 kg. Ai piedi della catena montuosa di Jotunheimen, a circa 12 chilometri da Beitostølen, si trova lo storico Bygdin Høifieldshotel, che risale al 1897.
Il caffè dell’hotel serve i waffle tutto l’anno e in estate puoi gustare anche il tradizionale porridge di panna acida con carne stagionata, un piatto assolutamente da provare quando si è in montagna!

Synshorn Via Ferrata The Synshorn Mountain is situated between the lakes Bygdin and Vinstre. Experienced guides take you safely up the steep rock face at the front of the mountain. The name Via ferrata originates in Italy, where iron paths were constructed in the Dolomites under the First Word War to improve the accessibility of the mountains for the troops. Viaggia con calma e fermati ai punti panoramici lungo il percorso.
L’area di sosta a Rjupa offre la vista su piccoli borghi di montagna e sulla valle di Valdres.
Quando la strada raggiunge il punto più alto, a 1.389 metri sul livello del mare, arriverai al Valdresflye Kafé, dove potrai fare sosta per gustare dei cibi locali.
Nelle giornate limpide dal caffè puoi vedere le cime di diverse montagne, come Besshøe, Høgdebrotet, Tjønnholstinden e Rasletinden.
Da qui è possibile anche fare l’escursione a piedi per tornare a Bygdin. In estate puoi prendere il pullman da Fagernes o da Beitostølen per arrivare al punto di partenza presso il caffè.
La strada prosegue serpeggiante attraverso l’altopiano fino a Vargebakkane, un piccolo parcheggio e popolare punto panoramico.
Poco più avanti ti aspetta una delle attrazioni principali della regione.
Gjendeosen è un punto di accesso al Parco nazionale di Jotunheimen. Qui si trova lo splendido lago Gjende, famoso per le sue scintillanti acque turchesi.
E, naturalmente, punto di partenza per l’escursione a piedi a Besseggen.
Accanto allo Gjendeosen café puoi prendere la barca per Memurubu. Da lì cominci l’impegnativa escursione sulla cresta per tornare indietro fino al punto presso il caffè da cui sei partito. È possibile percorrere il sentiero anche nell’altra direzione, ma devi controllare di avere tempo sufficiente in modo che coincida con gli orari di partenza del battello.
In alta stagione è consigliato prenotare in anticipo i biglietti della barca.
Tieni presente che alcune parti del percorso sono ripide e ci sono punti in cui ci si deve arrampicare. Puoi aspettarti di metterci dalle 7 alle 8 ore per completare l’escursione, quindi non è alla portata di tutti!
Assicurati sempre di avere la giusta attrezzatura da trekking, acqua e provviste necessarie per la tua sicurezza in montagna. Ricorda di dire sempre a qualcuno dove stai andando e quando pensi di essere di ritorno.

Molti rifugi di montagna servono anche piatti caldi e sostanziosi con ingredienti del territorio, perfetti per darti energia prima o dopo la tua escursione.
Vicino a Besseggen si trova il famoso rifugio Gjendesheim, gestito dalla DNT, l’Associazione Trekking Norvegese. Ha perfino il suo “manifesto” sul cibo, che garantisce agli ospiti un pasto non solo gustoso ma anche sostenibile.
“C’è molta attenzione sul consumare meno carne, ma credo sia altrettanto importante incoraggiare le persone a mangiare tutto quello che hanno nel piatto per evitare lo spreco, e far capire perché sono importanti i prodotti locali,” dice il gestore Marius Haugaløkken.
Suini allevati all’aperto della fattoria Sveen Gard, agnelli di Snerle Gard che hanno pascolato sui monti e patate coltivate da Sve Gard a Vågå, sono solo alcuni dei prodotti locali utilizzati nella cucina di Gjendesheim: buoni per te e anche per i contadini locali.
Cibi di montagna
Un altro fantastico rifugio di montagna nella zona è Bessheim, situato accanto alla strada regionale 51, dove gli ospiti vengono accolti fin dal 1890. Sul menu troverai le migliori materie prime locali, come trota di montagna, alce, cervo e agnello.
Una specialità da provare quando sei nei paraggi è la carne di renna che, secondo lo chef Bjørn Ekkerbakke, ha proprio il sapore delle montagne.
“Ha questo incredibile gusto di selvaggio e la carne tenera,” dice Bjørn e aggiunge che si procurano tutta la carne di renna da Vågå Tamrein, una associazione locale attiva a Jotunheimen dal 1942.
