La Strada turistica di Hardanger, una delle 18 Strade turistiche nazionali della Norvegia, è circondata a ogni svolta da bellezze naturali mozzafiato.
Un road trip nell’Hardanger
Parti per un road trip tra infinite bellezze naturali! La Strada turistica nazionale di Hardanger si snoda per 165 chilometri ed è suddivisa in quattro diverse tratte: Granvin–Steinsdalsfossen, Norheimsund–Tørvikbygd, Jondal–Utne e Kinsarvik–Låtefoss.
Visita una parte della Norvegia che ha da sempre ispirato gli artisti a coglierne tutto il naturale splendore.
Il modo più semplice per raggiungere l’Hardanger è arrivare in aereo a Bergen, noleggiare un’auto e guidare per due o tre ore. Un’altra possibilità è di arrivare in aereo a Oslo o a Kristiansand e, con un’auto a noleggio, guidare per circa cinque o sei ore. Tieni presente che le strade sono strette e tortuose, quindi viaggia con calma e utilizza le aree di sosta.

Un posto magnifico da cui partire è la cittadina di Odda, dove puoi passare la notte nelle straordinarie case sugli alberi Woodnest!
Odda è il punto di partenza ideale per andare alla scoperta di tutte le meraviglie naturali della zona, come…
… la gigantesca cascata Låtefossen. Si trova a circa 20 minuti d’auto a sud di Odda, su strade incantevoli e serpeggianti. È il modo perfetto per iniziare o per finire il viaggio lungo la strada turistica.
Attraversa il ponte di pietra mentre l’acqua precipita al di sotto nel fiume.
Ad appena 10 minuti a nord di Odda c’è Tyssedal, punto di partenza per la famosa escursione a Trolltunga. Se sei pronto per una sfida impegnativa puoi percorrere a piedi i 27 chilometri totali per raggiungere la roccia che si protende 700 metri sopra il lago Ringedalsvatnet.
Servono circa 8–12 ore per completare l’escursione. Fatti accompagnare da una guida se vuoi andare durante i mesi invernali.
Puoi visitare il Kraftmuseet, il Museo dell’energia, a Tyssedal e scoprire di più sull’energia idroelettrica norvegese. C’è perfino il gabinetto reale dell’Imperatore Guglielmo II: veniva spesso in viaggio in Norvegia all’inizio del 1900 e gli è stato attribuito il merito di aver dato inizio al turismo nei fiordi norvegesi.

Buer valley - astonishing glacial landscape
Starting point Buer in Odda. Drive off from route 13, signposted Buer. Drive to the end of the road where you will find the parking. About the trail You will walk next to the river for most of the hike up to the glacier. Some places there are bridges where you cross the river. The whole hike is in wild and lush landscape, and you can see the glacier in front of you the whole way. In some parts of the hike you will find ropes to make it easier to climb. The last part of the trail is in steep terrain, and sturdy hiking boots are necessary. Important! Do NOT go near the glacier. Trolltunga - also known as the Troll's Tongue - is the most spectacular rock formation in Norway. At 1180 meters above sea level, is lies about 700 meters above the lake Ringedalsvatnet. Circa 27 chilometri più avanti raggiungerai Espenes, dove potrai fermarti per una foto panoramica a un’area di sosta con un design unico!
Eleganti aree di sosta
Non perderti tutte le aree di sosta (e le toilette) originali e interessanti lungo il tragitto! Può suonare un po’ strano, ma in effetti tutte le Strade turistiche nazionali hanno delle toilette appositamente progettate (articolo in inglese) e situate in luoghi particolarmente scenografici.
Anche se non ne hai la necessità vale comunque la pena fermarsi, almeno per il panorama!
Le aree di sosta che trovi lungo questo itinerario sono a Espenes, Hereiane, Tyrvefjøra, Kvanndal e Skjervsfossen.


Se prosegui sulla strada panoramica per circa 30 chilometri lungo il Sørfjorden, un ramo dell’Hardangerfjord, arriverai agli idilliaci villaggi di Lofthus e Kinsarvik.
Trascorri qui una notte o due per godere dei panorami spettacolari del fiordo, delle dolci colline e delle imponenti montagne.
È un luogo stupendo per una sosta golosa, con diversi panifici, pasticcerie e ristoranti. C’è la possibilità anche di comprare ai lati della strada ciliegie, fragole e lamponi appena colti, quando è stagione. Spesso basta lasciare i soldi in una scatola e prendersi un cestino (fiducia e correttezza qui sono di casa).
Se hai voglia di un po’ di lusso fai check-in all’antico Hotel Ullensvang. Rilassati nella bellissima spa, con la piscina a canale per nuotare all’aperto e una vista magnifica sul fiordo.
In questa zona non mancano certo le bellezze naturali e ci sono tante escursioni a piedi da fare nei dintorni!
Se sei un escursionista esperto prova il Dronningstien, cioè il sentiero panoramico di S.M. la Regina Sonja. Ci vogliono dalle 6 alle 9 ore per completarlo e ha un dislivello di 1.100 metri.

Con una traversata in traghetto di mezz’ora passi da Kinsarvik allo storico villaggio di Utne. Per un soggiorno autentico scegli l’Utne Hotel, l’albergo in legno più antico della Norvegia, che ha iniziato la sua attività nel 1722. Una curiosità: questo hotel è sempre stato gestito da donne con una forte personalità!

Dirigendoti verso sudovest per circa un’ora, lungo la stretta strada che da Utne va a Jondal, arriverai a un traghetto che ti fa attraversare il fiordo per Tørvikbygd.
Prima della traversata potresti fare una deviazione verso sud al pittoresco villaggio di Rosendal, dove puoi visitare il più piccolo castello della Scandinavia, Baroniet, del 1665.
Solo 20 minuti d’auto ti separano dal terminal del traghetto di Tørvikbygd alla magica cascata Steinsdalsfossen. Grazie alla particolare passerella puoi camminare proprio dietro la cascata senza bagnarti!
Se vuoi ammirarla quando la sua potenza è al massimo devi venire a maggio o giugno.
Tieni presente che alcune parti del sentiero sono chiuse nei mesi invernali.
Soltanto a cinque minuti di distanza la strada porta all’incantevole villaggio di Norheimsund, un altro luogo fantastico dove fermarsi per una o due notti.

Prosegui per circa mezz’ora il tuo viaggio sulle strade serpeggianti lungo il fiordo fino a raggiungere un altro bel luogo dove fare sosta, Steinstøberget.
Ci sono servizi e posti per sedersi, oltre a panchine in riva al fiordo da cui ammirare il panorama sull’Hardangerfjorden e sull’imponente ghiacciaio Folgefonna. C’è anche un punto che affaccia proprio sull’acqua per chi avesse voglia di pescare.
Ancora 30 minuti di guida sulla strada panoramica, su un altro tratto stretto e tortuoso, ti conducono a Granvin. Se ti resta un po’ di tempo potresti fare una piccola deviazione, visto che la cascata di Skjervsfossen è a soli 10 minuti di distanza in auto. Anche questo è un bel posto da cui iniziare il viaggio sulla strada turistica, se vuoi percorrerla nel senso inverso.
Fai una pausa in una delle aree di sosta per vedere le cascate gemelle che si gettano con un salto di 150 metri.
Attenzione: la strada per la cascata è chiusa in inverno.
Se hai tempo vale la pena continuare sul Ponte di Hardanger. È uno dei più grandi ponti sospesi al mondo e collega le sponde nord e sud dell’Hardangerfjord. Ci sono parcheggi su entrambi i lati del ponte e lo puoi attraversare in auto, in bici o a piedi.
Dopo aver attraversato il ponte guida per altri 20 minuti e arriverai all’incantevole villaggio di Eidfjord. Fai una passeggiata nel centro del borgo o prova una delle tante escursioni nella zona.
Un breve tragitto in auto risalendo un tunnel serpeggiante ti conduce da Eidfjorden alla spettacolare cascata Vøringsfossen!
Questo punto segna l’inizio di un’altra strada panoramica nella zona, la Strada turistica nazionale di Hardangervidda, lunga 67 chilometri, che si snoda verso est tra Eidfjord e Haugastøl.
Tieni presente che la strada è aperta tutto l’anno, ma il tempo può influire notevolmente sulle condizioni di guida in inverno e può causare delle chiusure temporanee.
Da sapersi prima di partire
Ci sono due attraversamenti in traghetto lungo l’itinerario, a Tørvikbygd–Jondal e Kinsarvik–Utne–Kvandal. Leggi di più sugli orari dei traghetti.
Informazioni per ciclisti: fai attenzione al traffico intenso in estate. Evita i tunnel tra Kinsarvik e Odda, e poi per Låtefossen, e percorri invece la strada esterna.
Alcuni tratti della Strada 13 (Skjervsvegen) sono chiusi nei mesi invernali, quindi in quella stagione non c’è accesso alla cascata Skjervsfossen.
Il periodo migliore per fare questo viaggio in auto va da aprile a ottobre. A meno che tu non abbia una notevole esperienza di guida in condizioni invernali non è consigliato venirci durante l’inverno.
Un consiglio: se sei alla guida di un camper e non ami le strade strette puoi percorrere la strada più a est tra Utne e Odda.
