Se parli con una persona del posto, prima di uscire a pesca nella Norvegia settentrionale, ti sentirai spesso fare questa enigmatica domanda:
“Hai fatto in modo di assicurarti un po’ di buon haill?”, seguita da una risatina.
Il termine haill significa che, se hai fatto sesso prima di uscire a pescare, prenderai tanti più pesci e più grandi!
Haill è una credenza popolare, particolarmente diffusa tra la gente della Norvegia settentrionale. E sebbene da principio suoni solo come una cosa divertente, potrebbe anche avere un fondo di verità.
La dottoressa Torunn Christiansen, specialista di medicina generale all’ospedale Nordlandsykehuset, si è chiesta a lungo perché le persone del nord ci credano ancora, perfino al giorno d’oggi.
Una carica in più
Ha anche trovato un modo per approcciarsi al mito attraverso un’ipotesi teoretica che possa dargli senso:
“La dopamina fa parte del sistema di ricompensa del nostro corpo e viene rilasciata quando si compiono alcune azioni gratificanti, ad esempio quando andiamo a caccia o siamo soddisfatti sessualmente. Penso che sia interessante come l’haill unisca i mezzi di sussistenza e il sesso,” afferma Christiansen.
“Dopo aver fatto sesso il tuo sistema cognitivo funziona meglio – sei più collaborativo ed è più probabile che tu prenda decisioni migliori, per cui non è così impensabile che il sesso ti possa portare a prendere più pesci,” prosegue Christiansen.
Per non parlare del fatto che può anche migliorare il rapporto con il tuo partner.

Il periodo migliore per la pesca in mare nella Norvegia settentrionale
L’alta stagione va da maggio a settembre. Durante i mesi estivi puoi andare a pesca a qualsiasi ora grazie al sole di mezzanotte.
I pescatori più incalliti saranno interessati anche alla pesca invernale, specialmente alla famosa pesca dello skrei (merluzzo artico migratore), che si svolge da gennaio ad aprile. Fa freddo e buio, ma potresti anche avvistare in cielo le luci dell’aurora boreale.

L’importanza di un buon haill
Haill un tempo aveva un significato più serio. Fino agli anni ’30 del Novecento haill veniva utilizzato in particolare in relazione alla pesca dell’halibut, un pesce esclusivo che poteva arrivare a pesare più di duecento chili. L’halibut, chiamato “la regina del mare”, poteva sostentare l’intera famiglia, a differenza di altri tipi di pesce.
Però la pesca dell’halibut era pericolosa e bisognava uscire in mare anche con il brutto tempo e in condizioni di lavoro estreme.
“Haill riflette la relazione tra il pescatore e la sua donna. Il termine veniva utilizzato solo nell’intimità, non in pubblico, e la credenza diceva che avresti ricevuto la fortuna, cioè il tuo haill, dalla tua amata. Era necessario scegliere la partner giusta, che potesse darti abbastanza fortuna da mantenere la tua famiglia, perché era la donna che dispensava lo haill," spiega Marit Anne Hauan, esperta di folclore.
Al giorno d’oggi non siamo più dipendenti dalla pesca dell’halibut per poter vivere bene, quindi il termine haill ha assunto un significato più umoristico. Ma la gente della Norvegia settentrionale dice ancora “godt haill” (cioè buon haill), per augurarti buona fortuna quando vai a pescare.
Dato che l’halibut è una preda relativamente rara, il merluzzo è il mezzo di sostentamento per la maggior parte dei pescatori della Norvegia settentrionale. Ogni anno il merluzzo artico migra dal Mare di Barents verso le nostre coste settentrionali per riprodursi. Questo pesce prelibato è chiamatoskrei ... ed è diventato il pesce che viene ora più di frequente associato all’haill. Un’avventura a tema skrei è d’obbligo quando si fa un viaggio qui al nord!
