Sogn Kunstsenter, Lærdal

Sogn Art Centre is situated in Lærdal Cultural Centre at Lærdalsøyri, together with The Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre and Laksen Café.
At Sogn Art Centre you can experience a unique collection of works by Hans Gjesme, an artist who swayed between genius and mental illness. The museum is located in charming Lærdalsøyri.
The exhibition «Mad and brilliant?» invites you in amongst the strong and emotional images he created while he remained involuntarily committed at the Gaustad psychiatric hospital. Through the artwork you gain insight into how Gjesme used creativity as a way to express his inner struggles. For those seeking a deeper understanding of the interaction between psychology and art, this is an unforgettable experience. Perfect for visitors who want a combination of reflection and inspiration.
Season:
The museum is open during the summer season, from 15. June to the end of August. We are also open in connection with various events throughout the year.
Accessibility:
The entire area is easily accessible and step-free. Accessible bathroom facilities are available in the café.
The museum shares its location and admission ticket with the Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre. The building also houses the Laksen Café and Bakery, which offers fresh pizza and baked goods. We highly recommend you stop by both when visiting Lærdal.
