Launch: Forvaltaren av Torvald Hadland

Farmer and sheep farmer Torvald Hadland has written his first novel: Forvaltaren (The Steward).

His protagonist, Einar Håland, is the heir who returns home to take over the farm. On the farm there is a cupboard. Inside the cupboard are many corpses, and they tumble out, one after the other. The book contains everything a life on a farm can hold: personal crises, betrayal and love, and a natural world that brooks no compromise. How does Einar manage to cope with the challenges buried in the soil from previous generations? And what about the suitcase he himself has brought home to the farm – will he manage to hide it inside the cupboard?

The discussion about the book will be led by another sheep farmer and author: the Brage Prize-winning Sirdal native Tore Kvæven.

To introduce the discussion, Ellen Hagen will give a short talk on the primstav. Why? We’ll find out this evening.

Torvald Hadland is a sheep farmer, teacher and member of the programme committee for Jorddøgn.

Ellen Hagen works as a museum educator at the Archaeological Museum at the University of Stavanger.‍

Tore Kvæven is a sheep farmer, teacher and author.
