Winter hike with visit in ice cave - Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen

Book

The glaciers close to Longyearbyen is stretching from the towering summits of the nearby mountains. We will hike up in the hilly terrain by the foot of the glacier and soon discover the imposing meltwater channels forming the ice caves in Svalbard.

Join us on an adventurous hike to the ice cave at Larsbreen.
The trip starts at 10AM, when the guide meets you in your hotel reception. Bring you backpack with some extra layers of warm clothes to put on when you get coals, and a bottle of water.

The trip goes south of Longyearbyen and starts with a steady climb through the moraine landscape going up to the glacier. You will see how the landscape opens and the view is impeccable. Although the polar night darkens the walleyes, the moon, stars, northern lights, and snow will provide a light that one cannot experience elsewhere. The view is amazing and one of the highlights is entering the frozen world underneath our feet.  Everyone will be equipped with head lamps in the polar night, as well as snowshoes or crampons. We will enjoy our expedition lunch outdoors.

This is an unforgettable hike in the polar night.

Included:
- 5-hour guided hike
- Expedition lunch, warm drinks and snacks
- Pick up at your hotel/ guesthouse in Longyearbyen
- Guide with emergency and safety equipment
Physical requirements:
This trip requires good physical condition. The route follows no set trails, you should be able to move in varied terrain such as steep hills, boulders, moraines and snowy and icy grounds safely and independently.
Clothing:
You will need to bring hiking shoes, warm undergarments and socks, wind- and waterproof jacket and pants. You also need a warm and windproof hat, scarf or gaiter, and warm windproof mittens/gloves, and a backpack for extra clothes and a water bottle. We recommend the Nalgene that can handle warm water, because it freezes quickly here in the Arctic. Spacious clothing is recommended because air is the best insulation.

Language:
Safety is our top priority during our trips. It is necessary for you to be able to communicate in English or a Scandinavian language if you want to join our excursions. The tour language (English or a Scandinavian language) will be chosen based on the group's language skills
