Trailtips: Walking along southern Jeløy peninsula

In front of the city hall the famous prismfountain made by Carl Nesjar is situated. Carl Nesjar collaborated closely with Picasso for 17 years. His works are represented in among others the National Gallery and Museum of Modern Art in New York.

In the roundabout alongside the Amfi centre shopping mall the trip continues down Sundstredet along the fjord and the pier towards the historic and old toll booth building. You will continue further over the canal bridge through the canal park, past Sjøbadet. Follow Sjø str., Bråten str., Christian Erichsens str and down Hasselhill (Hasselbakken) towards Vårliststranda. Alongside Søly harbour and the street called Strandpromenaden (Beach promenade) towards Framnes.

Straight south by the harbour, you will enter a trailpath that will lead you  towards southern Jeløy conservation area, with fields and mixed vegetation all the way to Reiertangen. The hiking paths on southern Jeløy leads to many places in near connection to the sea in a landscape where the avenues, stone walls, mansions, and gardens are the dominant features in this landscape. Cultural historicaly these places has its backgrounds from when the farmproperties and gardens where purchased from rich city families and officials in the 17th and 18 houndreds. The properties where then converted to resorts with lavish park installations and alleys. 

On Alby lies gallery F-15, with art exibitions, meeting halls, and a cafeteria. Here you will also find Jeløy natural house of exibition, where you can learn more about the local environment and species floureshing on Jeløy.
