Stay at Lykling: close to the ocean and the forces of nature
Do you want to sleep right on the edge of the open sea—with the weather as your closest neighbour? At Lykling on the island of Bømlo, you’ll find the Storm Cabins: a place to stay for those looking for something more than just a bed for the night.
Here, you wake up surrounded by open ocean on almost every side. In the evenings, the sun hangs low, painting the sky in warm colours well into the twilight hours. When autumn and winter arrive, the forces of nature move in—bringing wind, rain, and crashing waves. It’s the contrasts that make the experience.
What it’s like to stay in the Storm Cabins (stormhyttene)
The Storm Cabins at Lykling are designed to give you a view—not to shield you from it. The two cabins, GoldenEye North and GoldenEye South, are built in a circular shape with solid glass walls, offering a full 360-degree connection to the surrounding landscape.
Inside, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay:
A double bed facing the ocean
Seating area and table
Simple kitchenette
Wi-Fi
A separate building with toilet facilities
It’s simple living, but deeply connected to nature—without unnecessary distractions.
A stay shaped by history
The Storm Cabins are located right in the middle of Lykling’s old gold mining area. In the late 1800s, this was one of Norway’s most active gold mining sites. Today, it’s the stillness, the light, and the landscape that draw people here—but the history still lingers beneath your feet.
How to get to the Storm Cabins at Lykling
Lykling is located in Bømlo municipality on Norway’s west coast. If you’re coming via the E39, it’s about a 30-minute drive from the Triangle Link and the Bømlo Bridge.
The final stretch takes you out towards the coast—where the landscape opens up, and the pace of life naturally slows down.
