Start by Lilletorget at the northern end of Lillehammer’s renowned pedestrian street – the most popular meeting point during the 1994 Olympics.

Cross the Mesna square, keep right, and then cross the Mesna river via the footbridge leading to the brewery square. When you reach Spinneribrua (bridge), walk through the small arch on your right and continue along Fossvegen past Mesna power station. Above the power station, follow the trail and signs for Mesna Kultursti.

Along the way is Helvetesfossen waterfall, which was a big tourist attraction in the 1870s. Continue through the underpass, and you will reach Badedammen – a popular swimming spot. To your right is Stampesletta with Håkons Hall and Kristins Hall, and further up is Lysgårdsbakkene Ski Jumping Arena.

From here, you can turn left and follow Sigrid Undsets veg (below the two halls) to Bjerkebæk (Sigrid Undset’s home) and then follow Nordsetervegen back to town centre.

Alternatively, you can continue up along the Mesna river.
