Kristiansand museum

Kristiansand museum, is southern Norway's largest historical museum.

The museum is located at Kongsgård and consists of the Open Air Museum, Miniby (miniature houses) and a main building with a toy exhibition. The open-air museum at Kongsgård consists of 34 old houses in three areas: Bygade, Setesdal yard and Vest-Agder yard.

Setesdal yard and Vest-Agder yard has many historic buildings, some dating way back to 1580. The yards have schools, barns, stables, and several storehouses. Right near the farmsteads sheep and lambs graze.

In summer, the museum has a special children's program "Fun at the Museum" where children can participate in old-fashioned games in the Children's House in Bygaden, guided tours, listen to fairy tales in the old houses, join carpenter and felting workshop and much more fun.

In Bygaden is Consul Mørch's Pavilion Café open when the museum is open (only on Sundays outside the summer season). They serve cakes, waffles, soda and coffee.

The museum also has a Miniby (miniature city) with building copied from Kristiansand in size 1:10. You will find many of the original houses and streets in Posebyen - the white wooden houses in the center of Kristiansand.

In Kristiansand museum, they are story tellers, and in summer they have guides showing the children around Bygaden. The museum welcomes groups and have different tours.

The museum has bus connections with all eastbound buses and you can get there in 12 minutes by bus or 5 minutes by car from Kristiansand city centre.
