Loen

The Kjenndalen valley and Kjenndalsbreen glaciers

Kjenndalsbreen is the lowest glacier arm of Jostedalsbreen glacier.

The Kjenndalen valley and Kjenndalsbreen glaciers start at the head of the Lodalen valley.

There is a road from Loen through the valleys Lodalen and Kjenndalen almost all the way to the glacier.
The Kjenndalsbreen glacier is located innermost at the bottom of the valley, 17 km by car from Loen (toll road). It’s a 15-minute walk from the car park to the lowest glacier arm of the Jostedalsbreen. The glaciers grew more than 300 metres between 1980 to 1997 but have receded in recent years.

The path to the viewpoint before you get to Kjenndalsbreen was upgraded in 2010.

The café Kjenndalsstova, which is open from May until September, is located at the end of Lovatnet lake.

The road into the Kjenndalen valley is closed in winter.
