Kamben Høyfjellshotell

The origin of Kamben dates back to 1836 as a mountain pasture. In 1920, E. Eidsgaard converted the pasture for tourism purposes, selling it to T.M. Magelsen in 1922. Together with his wife, Magelsen operated it as a hotel until 1936. That's when my grandparents, Dorthea and Martin Brekke, purchased the hotel and ran it alongside their farming activities. The transition to my parents, Reidun and Lars Glimme occurred in the 1970s. 1977 the hotel underwent significant expansion, and farming with horses and cows was discontinued. Today, my brother Lars Morten and I have taken over the hotel, continuing the tradition of welcoming travelers.

The hotel retains its old style with cozy log walls, rose painting, and a charming rural atmosphere. All our rooms meet high standards, and some feature a rustic charm, offering you a dreamy night in a canopy bed.

Rooms
We provide 70 beds across 40 constantly renovated rooms. The old section maintains its cozy log walls, and we've created some nostalgic rooms with canopy beds. The rooms are spread over three floors, each equipped with a shower, toilet, TV, and telephone. Second-floor rooms also come with a balcony.

Special Requests
We have dedicated rooms for guests with dogs, junior suites, and rooms in a rustic farmhouse style. Whether you prefer a dreamy night in a canopy bed or wearing a nightcap with a chamber pot under the bed, we accommodate your preferences.

Cabins
There are 8 rental cabins in the vicinity of the hotel. "Kula" is a 7-person cabin with a hot tub, 3 bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. "Stædehytta" is a spacious log cabin for 5 people with a loft, a large living room with a fireplace, a bathroom, and a kitchen. Four cabins form a small cabin court right next to the hotel, each 50 square meters with 2 bedrooms, a loft, 2 bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. Two new cabins have recently been added, similar to the others but without a loft. Instead, they have a veranda door from the living room, and the bedrooms are slightly larger.

Apartment
We've also created a beautiful apartment inside the hotel, with a private external entrance, available for rent even when the hotel is closed. The apartment, located at the end of the hotel, offers a splendid view of Syningen and our other cabins. It features 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, plus a smaller bedroom with a sauna. The kitchen has an island, a cozy corner with a sofa, a large TV, internet, and an electric fireplace. There's also a balcony.

Our Kitchen
We serve delicious homemade food with love because you deserve it! The dining area is beautifully decorated and offers a delightful breakfast buffet. Our 5-course dinner features local ingredients, including veal from Bjørnebråten, pork from Øynebråten, goat from Vestfold Kje on Re, elk from Hallingdal, and foraged mushrooms and rhubarb from our garden. We also cure some meats and marinate fish.

Dining Hall
Our dining hall can be arranged in horseshoes, round tables, long tables, small tables, or a large E shape. We can accommodate approximately 90-100 people. Our festive menu includes a variety of appetizers, main courses, desserts, and late-night snacks. If you have specific preferences, feel free to suggest them, and our chef will accommodate them.

Lavvo Soup
We also offer outdoor dining in our lavvo, featuring "Lavvo-suppe" – a meat soup made from elk and reindeer bone broth. Served around a crackling fire, accompanied by entertaining stories from a genuine Hallingdøl, this is a taste experience you'll remember.

Bar and Lounge
The lounge offers a stunning view of the beautiful mountain landscape, and the bar is fully stocked.

Fireplace Room
The charming fireplace room with log walls creates a warm and cozy atmosphere. During certain periods, dance to live music or request entertainment in our dance hall.

Skiing and Hiking
The Golsfjellet area and surroundings provide fantastic hiking terrain.

Cycling
Golsfjellet, with its nearby areas, is possibly the best location in the country for mountain biking. We offer bike rentals.

Skiing
Several family-friendly skiing facilities are available in the Kamben area. Hemsedal and Valdres alpine centers are also within reach.

Whisky Tasting
We offer whisky tastings for groups, combining it with dinner.

Fishing
Many lakes and waterways in the area have a good trout population, and new bodies of water are continually cultivated to enhance fishing opportunities.

Snowshoeing
We've mapped out routes for snowshoeing, with signs along the trails. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Stolpejakten
More than 50 posts are placed throughout the entire municipality. You decide how many posts you want to "capture."

Hare Hunting
We offer an extensive terrain of approximately 19,000 acres for enthusiastic hare hunters at Kamben Stølslag.

Støl Visits
Stølslivet comes to life during the summer, and a visit can lead to sour cream porridge and pancakes.

Weddings
We provide all the facilities for weddings.

Companies and Corporations
Kamben is an ideal venue for companies and corporations seeking a unique setting for a seminar that combines professional and social aspects.

Conference Hall
We offer a conference hall with AV equipment. Smaller meeting rooms are also available. The conference hall is bright and airy, with access to a large balcony.

Energy Boost
The hotel can be reserved exclusively for the organizer's group if desired. Give your colleagues and friends an energy boost in an otherwise hectic daily routine.

Activities
Stroll on the marked trails just outside the door for a break from professional matters. Have a picnic or enjoy soup in our lavvo. Visit one of the mountain huts or engage in outdoor games in the courtyard. Entertainment is also available from young talents in Ung i Valdres or amusing tales from a Genuine Hallingdøl.
