Vintage car museum,
Geiranger has a rich tourist history, with the first cruise ship sailing into the fjord as early as 1869. Geiranger’s farmers were quick to start driving the tourists up from the village to the popular viewpoints – initially by horse and cart, but in time they clubbed together to invest in open seven-seater cars. Several of the cars used to convey those early tourists have been restored and are on display at Hotel Union.Guests staying at the hotel enjoy complimentary admission.
Sustainability
Sustainability is in strong focus at the hotel, which is certified under the Eco-Lighthouse scheme. Hotel Union works continuously on sustainability and the environment, and among other things has switched to smaller plates for the buffet to reduce food waste and invested in a waste management system that includes composting.
Geiranger – a year-round destination
Geiranger is a popular place to visit in the summer, but is just as beautiful at other times of the year. Each season has its own charm – summer with its lively buzz, green mountainsides and turquoise fjord. Spring with its snow-capped mountains, vibrant green mountainsides and prolific waterfalls. Autumn, when the mountainsides are arrayed in shades of green, yellow, orange and red, and the pace of life in the village slows. Winter is a magical time, when you can almost have the whole village to yourself to enjoy snow-capped mountains and frozen waterfalls.
