This hiking tour along the Gudbrandsdalen path in Dovrefjell is a perfect blend of history and nature – a cultural journey through Norway's oldest pilgrim route with comfortable lodging, luggage transfer, and dramatic mountain landscapes.
Dovrefjell - Along the Pilgrim´s Trail
Experience one of Norway’s most spectacular mountain areas on a hiking tour that combines history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes. This route follows part of the Gudbrandsdalen path (Gudbrandsdalsleden), the longest pilgrim route in Norway. For centuries, it served as the main road to Nidaros (Trondheim) during the Middle Ages.
Walking here means literally following in the footsteps of thousands of pilgrims, surrounded by a unique mix of cultural heritage, high mountain terrain, and rich natural diversity. Along the way, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Dovrefjell National Park, an area well known for its extraordinary flora and fauna – and even the chance of spotting wild reindeer or musk ox.
This tour is ideal for hikers who want to combine highland hiking in Norway with a good level of comfort. Each evening, you’ll stay in cozy, private lodges with en-suite bathrooms and enjoy warm hospitality after your day on the trail.
To make the experience even easier, your luggage is transferred from lodge to lodge – leaving you free to hike with just a light daypack.
The hike is best suited for people in normal to good physical shape, with some experience walking in mountain terrain. Since the Norwegian highlands can offer everything from sun to sudden rain or wind, hikers should be prepared for changing weather conditions.
