Skagen 18 is one of Stavanger's oldest and most beautiful buildings, with a building history that goes back to the beginning of the 1700s. The property has been in the family Hansens owning for more than 300 years. Until 1986, it had been continually used for trading purposes; merchandising, shipping company, wine store and ship supplier. On the first floor the owner and his family had their residence until 1940, then the rooms became office space.
In 1987-89, the building that has been protected since 1924, was thouroughly restaured under the supervision of the Cultural Heritage. It now appears as a unique and exceptionally well-preserved example of the best of 1700s architecture in Stavanger.
