The ship was built for passenger and freight traffic on Norway's largest lake Mjøsa. Skibladner is now primarily a tourist ship. Did you know that Ibsen traveled with "Skibladner" on his journey to Gudbrandsdalen where he received inspiration for "Peer Gynt"?
In 1862 Ibsen traveled on an inspirational journey to collect myths and folk tales. The journey of inspiration went through Gudbrandsdalen and beyond on Sognefjellet to Lysterfjorden in Sogn, across Lærdal to Sunnfjord and Nordfjord and to Vestnes in Møre og Romsdal. Probably it was on the journey through Gudbrandsdalen that Ibsen was told stories and poems about the local Per Gynt from Vinstra. He started his journey by train from Oslo to Minnesund, then he took a steamship to Lillehammer. Every year you can experience "Peer Gynt" at Gålå, inspired by Ibsen's journey.
