The tour travels by minibus, and your guide will explain what you can expect from the evening along the way.

Searching for the Northern Lights

Your guide will share stories, myths and facts about the Northern Lights and explain how the phenomenon occurs, why it appears in different shapes and colours, and where it can be visible.

You will also receive tips on how to take your own Northern Lights photos. When conditions allow, the guide will take portrait photos and photos of the Northern Lights during the tour.

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and the possibility of seeing them depends on the conditions that evening. Sightings therefore cannot be guaranteed.

A warm meal beneath the Arctic night sky

During the evening, the group will find a suitable place for a break with a warm meal and hot drinks such as tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

When conditions allow, a campfire will also be lit. Blankets are available for extra warmth.

An accessible Northern Lights tour

The tour is adapted for wheelchair users and guests with reduced mobility. Tromsø Accessible Tours aims to make the experience accessible to guests with different needs.

If you require any additional assistance or adaptations, please provide this information in advance so that the operator can prepare for your visit.

Minimum age: No minimum age. If travelling with an infant, please inform the operator in advance.

Please bring:

  • Warm clothing suitable for very cold conditions. The thermal clothing provided may not be sufficient on its own
  • Your passport, as the tour may travel as far as Finland
  • Any personal equipment you require for a comfortable experience

Level of difficulty: Very easy. Please be aware that there may be icy and snowy conditions.

Departure time and place: 6 PM (18:00) by the entrance to Scandic Ishavshotel, Fredrik Langes gate 2, Tromsø.

Departure times may vary on certain dates. Please check the calendar for the applicable departure time before booking.

If you are staying in an Airbnb or other private accommodation and are using the pick-up service, you must provide a centrally located hotel as your meeting point.

Duration: 6–8 hours

Important information:

  • The tour operates from 1 October to 15 April on selected days of the week.
  • If you require an accessible tour and cannot find availability on your preferred date, you can contact the operator to ask whether a tour can be arranged.
  • Access to toilets is limited during the tour and cannot be guaranteed. Please plan to use the toilet before departure.
  • The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Please bring: Dress for very cold weather. Just our suits may not be enough for some people, passports, because our tour could take us all the way to Finland, any specific things for you to have a better experience
The possibility of toilets is restricted, so we cannot guarantee them on the tour. Please plan ahead for this.
