3-day dog sledding adventure to the lodge among glaciers - Arctic Husky Travellers

Book

Visit our idyllic lodge in the untouched, silent Tverrdalen. The only way to get there is by foot, skiing or dog sledding. This trip provides a special opportunity to experience the Svalbard nature.

Join us and the dogs to Svalbard's most beautiful valley - Tverrdalen. Here you can experience Svalbard's untouched wilderness only a day-trip away from Longyearbyen. There is no cell phone coverage here, and motorized traffic is prohibited. Our eager sleddogs will transport us safely to "Reinheim" and be faithful polar bear guards while we enjoy a great winter-view of mighty mountains and glaciers from a warm cabin.

Day 1 goes through deep valleys and over a mountain pass with spectacular views before we head down to our cabin Reinheim, in Tverrdalen. At the cabin, we light the fire and enjoy a better meal, before we can relax on the sofa with views in all directions. When darkness falls, only light from the stars and the northern lights can be seen here since no human constructions or activities, except for the cabin, is found here. From mid-April there is midnight sun and daylight 24/7.

Day 2 we are free to do as the group wishes, and we recommend taking a day trip with a light sled to explore this beautiful area with hot lunch and drinks outside in the snow on reindeer skins. Once back at the cabin, we can offer a relaxing and warm sauna before dinner is served. At the cabin we have a rich selection of polar literature and nature books, as well as many different board games.

Day 3 we head back home after a long and solid breakfast. We take a detour to visit the beautiful ice cave on the Scott Turner glacier. Here we go down into a meltwater channel where we can study the many fascinating ice formations and colours as we go down into the glacier. We enjoy lunch in our igloo or tent that we have placed on the glacier, while the dogs relax outside and keep watch. Thereafter we return home to the dog yard in Bolterdalen and say farewell to our four-legged friends. Expected return to accommodation in Longyearbyen will be somewhere between 15:30 and 17:00 on Day 3.

We pick you up at your accommodation in Longyearbyen at 10:00 on Day 1 and drive through the beautiful Adventdalen to our kennel, which is located 12 km outside Longyearbyen. Here we will inform you about the trip, equipment and safety. After we have gone through the packing list and equipment, dressed you up in warm clothes and shoes, we go out to the sleds and dogs where we give you an introduction to dogsledding. Then we harness the dogs and set off. We travel two on each sled, and both stand and drive actively (see photo). The guide runs first with a companion guide at the back to safeguard the trip.

You don't need any previous dog sledding experience to participate, but you should be in average good physical shape.
