Millstone park

At Kvernsteinsparken in Hyllestad, you can discover one of Norway’s earliest major industries. Millstones have been quarried here by hand for more than 1,000 years. A walk through the quarry landscape and museum buildings is a fascinating journey through geology, history and craft traditions. A perfect day filled with learning, exploration and discovery.

Kvernsteinsparken in Hyllestad is Norway’s only themed museum dedicated to millstone production and showcases the country’s largest cultural heritage site from the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. Welcome!

Food, drinks and museum shop

During the summer season you can enjoy coffee, tea and traditional sveler (Norwegian pancakes). In the museum shop you will find a selection of quality products from local producers.

Accessibility

The lower part of the park, including parking and buildings, is relatively flat and connected by gravel paths. Parts of the Stonecutter Trail and the main building Storehuset are accessible for visitors with reduced mobility. There is no universally designed toilet in the park.

The park is located at Hyllestadvegen 402, centrally in Hyllestad municipality. Parking is available for visitors.
