Better Moments will offer you a chance to see Svalbard's biggest bird event during the summer – The bird jumping. For just a few days in July, the chicks will jump from their nests on the huge bird cliff Alkhorne and we will be there to see them spread their wings for the first time ever.
Better Moments will offer you a chance to see Svalbard’s biggest bird event during the summer – The bird jumping. For just a few days in July, the chicks will jump from their nests on the huge bird cliff Alkhorne and we will be there to see them spread their wings for the first time ever.
In the end of July, the Brunnich Gillimot chicks are ready to take off for the first time. With a little help from their parents the chicks will «jump» from their nests along the cliff’s edge. At the most, hundreds of birds will take off at the same time. During this event, all the predators are gathering for a «free» meal. They will catch as many chicks as possible during this jump, so they can fill up their storage for the winter. We get to experience the fight for survival in the arctic up close.
After a ride in our RIB boat, we will go ashore on the beach in Trygghamna. From there it is an easy hike up to the foot of Alkhornet mountain where we will find a good spot to spend some time birdwatching.
This trip is not only for “Birders” and other wildlife enthusiasts. This trip suits everyone that enjoys spectacular nature. If you are lucky you might get to see one of the most spectacular events of the arctic summer. We will focus on photographing and good observing positions. We will also serve food and drinks during the trip.
We require a minimum of 7 persons on this trip. The minimum age is 4 years.
