Discover Oslo's history in the middle of the city centre.

Il castello e fortezza di Akershus (Akershus slott og festning) risale al 1299, durante il regno di Håkon V. La costruzuone venne terminata nel corso del 1300.

Questo castello medievale aveva (ed ha) una posizione strategica sulla cima della collina Akersneset.

La fortezza ha difeso la città in più occasioni nel corso dei secoli. Sotto il regno di Cristiano IV (1588-1648) il castello venne rimodernato, anche negli interni, in stile rinascimentale. Nel corso del 1700 la costruzione iniziò a evidenziare segni di decadimento, e solo nel 1899 vennero avviati lavori di ristrutturazione.
