Experience the beautiful fjord and art village of Balestrand on a day trip from Bergen. The trip includes a stop at Tvindefossen waterfall and a boat trip near the glacier in Vik.

Balestrand is a true Norwegian gem, known for its stunning natural beauty and cultural attractions such as the Swiss-style wooden hotel Kviknes and St. Olav’s Church from the 17th century. Balestrand also offers the Norwegian Travel Museum, which tells the story of how Norway became one of the world’s most famous destinations, as well as local culinary experiences at places like the Cider House or the Bistro at Kviknes.



The tour starts outside the Tourist Information Office in Bergen and continues by bus to Voss, then across the spectacular Vikafjellet mountain road to Vik. From Vik, we cruise through the Sognefjord, Norway’s deepest and longest fjord, arriving in Balestrand at 11:50.



About the tour:

Departure: The tour starts at 07:30 from the Tourist Information Office in central Bergen.



First stop: After approximately 1.5 hours, we take a short break in Voss to pick up additional travelers.



Tvindefossen: Around 09:20, we stop at the impressive waterfall. There is also a souvenir shop here.



Stop at Vinje: A short stop at a gas station by the river – a magical and peaceful little break, perfect for a cup of coffee and a restroom visit.



Into the mountains: We continue across the spectacular Vikafjellet, where patches of snow often remain even in midsummer – a beautiful meeting of multiple seasons.



Photo stop: Around 10:40, we stop at the viewpoint Storesvingen, offering panoramic views down toward the charming village of Vik. Here you can get off the bus and take photos.



Arrival in Vik: Here, a boat trip awaits near the glacier – an experience that brings you close to the powerful nature of the area.



Boat to Balestrand: Arrival at approximately 11:50.



Balestrand: Upon arrival, you will have nearly 5 hours for free exploration of the village and its attractions, such as cider tasting with a lunch platter, the Norwegian Travel Museum, Sognefjord Aquarium, St. Olaf’s Church, and more.



Boat back to Vik: The boat departs at 16:50 from the quay in Balestrand back to Vik. Please arrive in good time.



Departure from Vik: Around 17:25, we continue by bus from Vik, with a short photo stop at the beautiful Hopperstad Stave Church. Note: we do not enter the church.



Return to Bergen: After dropping off passengers in Voss, we arrive back in Bergen at approximately 20:35.



Driver / guide: Your driver and guide speak English and Norwegian, the guide is with you on the trip to and from Balestrand.

Handicap access:

The bus and the boat have a ramp suitable for both electric and non-electric wheelchairs. If you need to use our handicap ramps the booking must be done minimum 48 hours prior to departure and is on condition that the tour is not already fully booked as we then remove two seats from the bus.

The tour must be booked no later than 16.00 the day before departure.



Cancellation:

If cancelled up to 2 days before date of departure, the full amount will be refunded. Cancellation after this will not be refunded. Cancellation is made by sending an email to [email protected]

Your email confirmation is your ticket for this tour. The tickets for the cruise will be provided by the driver.



Children:

For children under 135 cm remember to book a child seat as an extra (no additional cost).

Car cushions for older children are available in the car. Minimum age is 4 years old.
