A City Tour with Martin - Bergen on Foot

Looking for an English walking tour in Bergen? On this guided walk, I take you through the historic centre of Bergen and show you the city from a local perspective. The tour is especially suitable if you are visiting Bergen for the first time and want to not only see the city, but also understand it better.

Bergen is a city best explored on foot: between old wooden houses, narrow alleyways, the harbour, the surrounding mountains and stories that reach back to the days of the Hanseatic League. Together, we walk to some of the city’s most important places, including the UNESCO World

Heritage Site of Bryggen and the medieval St Mary’s Church.

During the tour, I will tell you about the Hanseatic period, the stockfish trade, life in old Bergen and how the city has developed up to the present day. But this tour is not only about famous sights and historical facts. It is also about understanding why Bergen became the city it is today: a maritime city in Norway, shaped by trade, weather, the sea, the surrounding mountains and a very special local character.

You will also get an insight into modern life in Bergen, Norwegian habits and everyday life in Norway. This combination of history, culture and present-day life makes the tour more than just a classic city walk.

Along the way, you will receive personal tips for your stay and a better understanding of what makes Bergen such a special place. My goal is that after the tour, you have not only seen Bergen, but also understand the city, its stories, its people and its character a little better.
