Family bike trail HallingSpranget

One of Northern Europe's longest family-friendly bike trails!

This trip offers a spectacular journey all the way from the high mountains and down to the valley floor. The blue-graded (medium difficulty), family-friendly trail has a number of pause spots along the way. Use these! Take your time, remember your packed lunch and enjoy the view. HallingSpranget is a memorable ride and great fun also for experienced riders.

TRANSPORT TO TOPPS

HallingSpranget has its own bus, transporting both cyclists and bicycles from Nesbyen town center to the start of the trail every day from 24 June to 14 August (6 departures per day). Book transport here . It is also possible to drive your car to the start of the trail, but there are very limited parking space at the top.

ABOUT THE TRAIL

The trail consists of tons of fun turns on a compact surface of gravel. There are a couple of climbs in the upper part of the trail, including  a climb at the very beginning up to the highest point. Do loose your spirit here! The trail mainly goes downhill (a total of 900 meters) and you can for the most part only concentrate on adjusting the speed and enjoying the turns. With blue grading (medium difficulty), this is the trail that most cyclists master, while it is still fun for more experienced cyclists. The upper kilometers of the trail are located on the barren mountain and offer spectacular views in all directions. The trail then winds through a spectacular landscape, past marshes and airy viewpoints, through dark and mysterious old-growth forest and open pine forest before ending in the center of Nesbyen.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BIKE AND BIKER

17 km and 900 meters of downhill on the bike seat should not be underestimated, especially if you bring children. The ride requires endurance, good brakes and basic cycling skills. Mountain bike with suspension fork and good brakes are recommended. Full suspension is not necessary, but makes the trip even more fun. It is possible to rent a trail bike in Nesbyen. If you are unsure of your own skills, we recommend testing Blåbærtrøkket or Storetoppstien (lower part of HallingSpranget) first.

SHUTTLE, GUIDE AND PARKING

In high season we recommend using the bicycle bus FjellLinken which runs from Nesbyen center to the start of the trail. Book here.

Taxi to the start of the trail is also an option.

For those of you who are fit, or have an electric bike, it is possible to cycle from the entire center of Nesbyen to the top of the trail by following this route.

If you want to park your own car at the top, there is a small parking pocket near the start of the trail ( Google Maps link ), but this has very limited capacity. The car park at Nesfjellet Golf has plenty of space, bicycle washing, charging for electric bicycles and a service station. From here there is a few hundred meters of ascent up to the start of the trail. See our overview of cyclist-friendly parking spaces in Nesbyen.
