Next year will be 25 years since Morten Abel's iconic album, I'll Come Back and Love You Forever, hit the Norwegian music scene like a meteor. It should be celebrated!
2001 was a good year for pop music. The millennium was young and promising. The album format was at its peak, even though Napster was putting a damper on the record industry. You could invest in a CD with an exciting cover, and learn to love the content after countless listens, or listen to it with huge earphones along the counter at the local record store. Nothing could stop Morten Abel's insane success at this time. His third solo album hit the bullseye with the spirit of the times, with an eclectic mix of unforgettable melodies, big choruses, innovative production and a silky voice with quirky diction. Everything was permeated with a uniqueness that made him one of the country's most remarkable pop stars.
The album received rave reviews, was nailed to the VG-lista for 20 weeks, and Abel was awarded the Spellemann Prize in the categories Pop Soloist of the Year and not least with the prestigious award "Song of the Year" for the title track - which must be said to sound just as refreshing, unique and beautiful to this day.
The album topped the Norwegian charts for seven weeks and contains songs such as "You Are Beautiful", "Welcome Home", "Music Is Communicating" and "Stay Crazy" - songs that have later followed a generation of Norwegians through life and love.
25 years later, Morten Abel invites us into a time machine for an evening. The journey goes back to 2001 and a re-listening to I’ll Come Back and Love You Forever in its entirety. It will be an evening filled with musical nostalgia, but also a testament to how timeless these songs are – and what a unique songwriter and artist Morten Abel is. And as if that weren’t enough: The evening will of course be topped off with a hit parade from his entire solo career. From his debut album all the way up to the newest songs – all the highlights you’ve sung along to, danced to and carried with you throughout your life.
In a career spanning several decades, from the Mods via The September When to his solo career, Abel has shown a rare ability to unite the experimental with the folk. Morten Abel has always balanced between the experimental and the folk, and always delivered with a uniqueness few can match. Now all of this comes together in one evening that both celebrates a masterpiece and one of the most unique voices in Norwegian pop history.
The 2026 tour will thus not only be a celebration of an iconic album, but also of an eccentric artist who has left a lasting mark on Norwegian popular history.
