About the concert
This is the evening of festive fireworks and joy of life when musical light grenades share the stage with a trumpet shooting star and colorful Spanish flamenco.
Wynton Marsalis takes us on a spectacular journey through the many stylistic facets of the trumpet, from military fanfares to the diverse mood colors of the blues, from the instrument's solo virtuosity to its singing qualities, from Mexican mariachi to Eastern European kletzmer and American bebop. All masterfully and melodiously performed by the new Austrian superstar and trumpet virtuoso, Selina Ott, in the Norwegian premiere of this concert that is considered an extreme sport for trumpeters.
De Falla's ballet music for The Three-Pronged Hat is both colorful and captivating, with clear inspiration from Andalusian modal folk music and fiery Spanish folk dances such as seguidilla, flamenco and jota.
With Starburst, Jessie Montgomery describes a musical star explosion where rapidly changing timbres form the backdrop for fleeting melodies and violent movements.
