For several decades, Norwegian missionaries sent their children to boarding schools around the world. Liv Kristin Steen Brundtland was one of them. Many experienced loneliness, neglect and abuse while their parents followed their “calling” and spread the Gospel among the “unreached”.
I varetekt meg ta tells the story of growing up at a boarding school in Taiwan, of longing for parents, of a “house father” who was meant to serve as a father figure but failed, and of a closed world where loyalty overshadowed the needs of children.
It is also the story of a long and painful struggle to be heard, and to ensure that the experiences of missionary children become a truthful and recognised part of missionary history.
Liv Brundtland will be interviewed by author and illustrator Lene Ask, who has herself written and illustrated stories about missionary children.
