For over 30 years, Elin Salvesen has walked her rounds as Farsund's town watchwoman, sharing the town's history with residents and visitors. On Tuesday, 10 November, she joins Folk & Lister – in full traditional uniform, of course.
For many, Elin has become a familiar part of Farsund's townscape. When the old town watch tradition was revived in 1996, Elin took on the role. Since then, she has met residents, visiting boaters and tourists on her rounds, telling stories about Farsund and the people who have lived here.
Through her role, she has also kept a centuries-old European tradition alive. Carrying a lantern and a morning star, and singing the traditional watchman's song, she combines her historic role with being a guide and a welcoming host for the town.
In 2025, Farsund Municipality celebrated her 30 years of service, and Elin was awarded the King's Medal of Merit.
This evening, we'll hear about her experiences over the years, the stories hidden in Farsund's streets – and what it's really like to be the town's watchwoman.
