Text from the organiser:
A giant of the West African music scene and a dear friend of Oslo World, Fatoumata Diawara returns to Oslo in 2026. It is a rare occasion for us to present concerts outside week 44. The last – and only – time we did so was when Caetano Veloso visited in 2023. But when Fatoumata Diawara had availability this spring, we knew we had to make it happen. Anyone who has experienced her live knows why. She is a truly exceptional artist.
Her first appearance at Oslo World as a solo artist was back in 2012. Since then, she has returned several times. Most recently, she became the first female African artist ever to hold a solo concert at Den Norske Opera & Ballett in Bjørvika, where she performed the project Maliba. It was a memorable evening – but seeing her do her thing in front of a standing, dancing audience is something entirely different. She will turn Sentrum Scene upside down.
Fatoumata Diawara is a multifaceted artist. She is a role model who speaks out on women’s issues and advocates for her home country, Mali. She is an unforgettable stage presence, delivering both grand and intimate musical moments. A guitar virtuoso and a singer of rare calibre, she has performed as a backing vocalist for Oumou Sangaré (including at Oslo World before making her solo debut) and has collaborated with everyone from Bobby Womack to Damon Albarn. She has also worked as an actress – perhaps best known for her role in the Oscar-nominated film Timbuktu from 2014.
Diawara sings in her mother tongue, Bambara. Her musical curiosity is insatiable – on her latest release, London Ko, she spans continents and multiple musical styles. Her sound is more eclectic and electronic than ever before. On the album, she reunites with Damon Albarn and shares moments with Angie Stone, Roberto Fonseca, M.Anifest and Yemi Alade.
It marks a high point in her career. This spring, Oslo World is proud to welcome one of our favourite artists back once again.
