Every year in the end of May, the Folk Music Week gathers national and international Folk musicians to a week of concerts, competitions, courses and parties in Ål.

Come for the music. Come for the dance. Come for the party.

The event, which gathers an audience of several thousand every year, started in 1976 and is the oldest Folk Music Festival in Norway.

Its aim is to present the broad spectre within Norwegian folk music and dance by giving both professionals and amateures a chance on stage. Additionally, the Folkmusic Week seeks to support recruitment and education. Even though the Norwegian profile is dominating, several international artists have visited the Folk Music Week.
