Rail Biking on Flekkefjordbanen

Experience the scenic Flekkefjord Line on a rail bike between Flekkefjord and Sira. A memorable journey through 17 tunnels, beautiful nature, and local history.
Flekkefjordbanen – Rail biking through beautiful nature
Experience an unforgettable adventure on the historic Flekkefjord Line, part of Magma Geopark, a UNESCO Global Geopark. Ride your own rail bike (draisine) through stunning Norwegian nature, along fjords, through valleys, mountain landscapes and a total of 17 tunnels – a unique experience for both tourists and companies.
You ride on rail bikes, also called draisines. The bikes are tandem models where two people pedal, and one adult or two children can sit on. Helmets are mandatory, and it is recommended to bring a strong flashlight. Remember to bring drinks and snacks for the trip, and perhaps a jacket for the cool tunnels. There are benches, tables and toilets by the water tower at Flikkeid.
The season runs from April to October, with three daily departures at 08:00, 12:00 and 16:00. It is also possible to ride electric rail bikes, a popular upgrade. More information can be found at flekkefjordbanen.com.
From 1904 to 1990, the Flekkefjord Line was an important transport link connecting the town of Flekkefjord with the Sørlandsbanen railway. On New Year’s Eve 1990, the last rail bus departed from Flekkefjord to Sira, marking the end of a railway era.
The Friends of Flekkefjordbanen work to preserve the line and develop it as a living museum under the motto “Cultural heritage through active use”. Today, the 17-kilometre railway is a protected cultural monument.
